•          Mizra Waheed - London based kashmiri novelist, launched his debut novel 'The collaborator', with the Kashmir conflict as the backdrop, at Srinagar. The Book was published by penguin books, U.K., has already been listed among the top 10 novels of 2011.
•          Warren Buffet & Bill Gates - These two richest people will visit India this year to seek support of wealthy Indians for Philanthropic activities. They are leading the 'Giving Pledge' Campaign that urges rich people to pledge at least half of their wealth to charity
•          Surinder Jakhar, IFFCO chairman and son of Balaram Jakhar, died of injuries he sustained when his pistol allegedly went off accidentally at Abohar.
•          The Government has appointed A. Sudarshan Reddy as new Advocate-General of the State, for the first time since the establishment of the AP High Court in Hyderabad
•          Former union Minister and senior politician of Circar districts Bulusu Prabhakara Butchi Krishna - SBPBK Satyanarayana Rao died at the age of 90 in Hyderabad. He served as Minister of State for Agriculture in Vajpayee government for two years between 1999 to 2001.
•          Noted Telugu film director EVV Satyanarayana dies at the age of 53 due to heart attack in Hyderabad. He has directed 42 movies
•          Pandit Bhimsen joshi, the doyen of Hindustani Classical Music, breathed his last at a private hospital in Pune He was 88 years old. Joshi was awarded the 'Padmashri' in 1972, the 'Padma Bhushan' in 1985 and 'Padma Vibhushan' in 1999. Bharata Ratna in 2009.
•          Kotha Satchidananda Murthy, former Vice-Chancellor of Sri Venkateshwara University (1975-79) and Vice-Chairman of University Grants Commisssion (1986-89) died at St Joseph Hospital in Guntur.
•          Swami Bhuddhanada Maharaj, general secretary, Bharat Sevashram Sangh,died at Hyderabad due to heart attack. He was 92 years old.
•          T.Ashok Babu, scientist, Advanced Systems Laboratory (DRDO), Hyderabad, has been elected as vice-president of the Indian Association of Special Libraries and Information Centres, Kolkata, for 2011-13.
•          Oscar-nominated British director Peter Yates died. He was nominated in the best director and best picture categories both for cycling story 'Breaking Away' and backstage drama 'The Dresser'.
•          Baldev Raj, Director of the Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research (IGCAR) in Kalpakkam has been elected president of the Indian National Academy of Engineering(INAE).
•          The trust board of the Sri Seetharamachandra Swamy temple at Bhadrachalam has decided to appoint renowned Carnatic musician Mangalampalli Balamuralikrishna as Asthana Sangeetha Vidwan.
•          Senior Make-up-Man, Producer A.Pothuraju died in Chennai . He was a personal make-up-man of Anjalidevi. He was 80 years old.
•          BJP chief Nitin Gadkari released a book, 'Secrets of RSS', authored by Ratan Sharda.
•          Prof. K. Yadaqgiri appointed as a Director of Telugu Academy. He was a Kakatiya University Telugu Head of the Department.
•          Venkat Changavalli's resigned as the chief executive officer of Emergency Management and Research Institute (EMRI). The GVK Group nominated industrialist K.Krishnam Raju as the director in-charge of EMRI.
•          Indian singer and Composer Suchitra Mitra died of a cardiac ailment on 3 January 2011, in Kolkata. She was also a playback singer and acted in Bengali Films. She was awarded the Padma Shri by the Government of India in 1974
•          The Pakistan Punjab's liberal Governor, Mr. Salman Taseer, was assassinated by his security guard. Iran Prince Ali Raja Pahalavi died at Bostan in USA.
•          Mohiniyattam performer of Kerala enters the Guinness book of records for her 123 hours and 15 minutes long dance marathon. By this Hemalatha broke the record of Vettikotta Yadagiri of Hyderabad.
•          Subhash Lalla, who allegedly had a role in the Adarsh Housing scam, resigned as a member of the Maharashtra State Human Rights Commission.
•          Rajeev Agarwal assumed charge as the Chief General Manager of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd,Andhra Pradesh Circle. He succeeded T.N. Sushindra Kumar,Who retired on December 31.
•          Air Marshal N.A.K.Browne assumed charge as Vice-Chief of the Indian Air Force. He succeeded Air Marshal P.K.Barbora, Who retired on 31/12/2010.
•          Famous Poet 'Padmasri' Suragali Thimothy Gyanananda died at Kakinada.Central Government conferred him with 'Padmasri' on 2001. His famous novel is 'Amrapali'. He was also awarded Andhra Pradesh Sahitya Academy Award on 1975.
•          Medical Student Servepalli Skanda Harshita was selected for 'Journal of Young Investigators', it belongs to USA. She is a final year MBBS student in Narayana Medical College in Nellore.
Sailaja Suman was appointed as new Director of Doordarshan.
